GOP Gov Candidate Being Sued

***EXCLUSIVE***

Former GOP gubernatorial candidate Jim Barnett is apparently being sued by at least one former staffer and at least one company for failing to pay bills, wages, reimbursements and fundraising commissions.

Our source indicates Barnett, in an effort to recoup his $100,000 seed money from his campaign account, withdrew the remaining campaign account money before all bills were paid.

We've also been told a complaint has been or is about to be filed with the Kansas Ethics Commission for what our source called 'Wagle Accounting'. The claim surrounds a number of contributions to the campaign that were reported, but never collected. There could be as much as $35,000 in fake contributions on finance reports, according to our source.

The Kansas Dept. of Labor is also said to be involved in this investigation.

The lawsuit and complaints are said to be made public close to Kansas Days, the annual Kansas GOP meeting in Topeka, which are to be held this weekend.

Also, according to the Kansas GOP website, Barnett is hosting a reception on Saturday afternoon.

Sucks to be Barnett right about now. There go his chances at running for governor or any higher office (not that his chances were strong before this latest embarrassment.)

As Drudge would say: Developing..........

does this shock anyone? if wagle is involved, someone is going to get screwed, in a matter or speaking.

barnett must have been very bitter over his loss, but not paying his bills makes him look like a dead beat candidate. hope he's not running for senate again because he is d-o-n-e.

i heard there were major problems with wagle in that campaign, but now it appears barnett was equally to blame.

Susan Wagle is the most selfish politician in Kansas. She doesn't take a crap without thinking about how it could help her politically.

Glad to see this site active again.

Any idea on who will be running for governor in four years? We know it won't be Barnett now or Wagle.

Then again, they both have an hyperego that might give them the hope they can actually win this time.

Barnett who? Didn't he get beat by 20 points?

Anonymous said...

no, he didn't lose by 20 points.

In fact, he did better than incumbant double LL kline

Anonymous said...

That's right. The incumbent Phill Kline lost by a wider margin than Barnett lost to Sebelius. This lawsuit stuff is something I would expect Kline to pull, not Barnett.

Wagle is pushing for Pompeo to win the party chair set. If Pompeo loses it will be another loss for Wagle.

will this put Barnett in trouble with the ethics commission or is this just a civil case- any attorney's out there?

If Susan Wagle is involved in any way, Barnett is screwed. Someone should have warned him she was an albatross.

Barnett thinks that he lost because of others. That's probably why his refused to pay staff and vendors. Somehow, he justifies paying himself first.

The only reason Barnett lost is because of Barnett. He has a terrible candidate who showed terrible judgement (beginning w/ selection of Wagle). Barnett offered zero vision for KS. He alienated his friends and supporters. And, he was lazy and didn't campaign as hard as necessary for a statewide office. In short, Barnett has nobody to blame but himself.

It's likely Barnett realized early on he was not going to win, which would explain the lack of enthusiastic campaigning on his part.

Wagle? Who knows what she's thinking!?! That Wagle accounting stuff, if true, would be interesting.

Doesn't really sound like Barnett to intentionally pull money to screw staff and vendors, but losing campaigns can do strange things to people.

Governor's race four years from now??? Good Lord, the Republican field will be so crowded with legislators, Canfield types, etc, etc. I did hear that Thiart does not want to Governor, would rather be a Senator. That's one out of the race.

Anonymous said...

My guess is that Mark Parkinson will be Governor in 4 years.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Parkinson will be governor in 4 years.

I can see Suzie Wiggle fudging the finance reports. I doubt the ethics commission verifies each and every contribution so padding the number would be easy to do.

Jennison might not have beaten Sebelius, but he would have made a much better candidate than Barnett. He was playing doctor while all the other candidates were out winning votes.

Barnett can kiss his political future goodbye after this, not that he had much of one.

What about Brownback running for governor in 4? Unless he's picked up as a vp candidate, he would be in a position to run.

Barnett is very good at trying to hide from reality. After people found out about his son being gay, he went into a tailspin.

I think Barnett's biggest problem in the election is that he listened to Wagle too much and realized shortly after getting in the race that he had no chance. A 20 point loss is huge and embarrassing.

That, and because he's just a pussy. Now its easy to see where his son gets it.

This blog is out of line.

I won't believe this lawsuit thing until I see it. Even if Barnett is getting sued then I am sure there are two sides to this story.

I did not vote for Barnett but anyone who has been around him knows he is a kind and honorable man. Crushing on his son is childish and makes you sound like a pussy.

dude, so barnett's kid is gay. just because come commenter said what everyone knows doesn't make the main point go away.

"even if barnett is getting sued there are two sides to it..."

huh? is that what you say to your bill collectors? yeah, well, i'm out of money so i just wont pay you.

sounds like a typical stuck up politician.

and besides, i for one am more interested in how wagle cooked the books. bring on the ethics investigation!

A lawsuit can hardly be equated to a bill collector.

A lawsuit could simply mean that a disgruntled staffer is suing because they don't feel like they got paid enough. There could be a million reasons why someone would file a bullshit lawsuit. I will concede that since Wagle is involved there is a good chance that some shady activities were going on, but I doubt anyone on this blog knows for sure.

I suppose it is pretty hard for a liberal to believe that someone might file an unsubstantiated lawsuit.

The worst part is that you result to name calling, and liberals of all people call a kid a pussy because he might be gay? Those in the Democratic Party should really watch where they throw stones.

That is true, one of Kathleen's kids is gay. I think its the youngest one.

Do you people know that all of this information can be traced back to you? Just thought that might be a small bit of information that you all might want to know...

Sorry. Too many of these previous posts are simply not factual, or unrecognizable due to dizzying spin.

Barnett, who had three opponents, lost to Kathleen by 17.5%. Kline, who had two opponents (himself and Morrison), lost by 17.1%.

Tiahrt, I have heard from many independent sources, couldn't keep his zipper zipped when he was in Topeka. I also heard, and couldn't run down to the Fairfax, VA county courthouse to check, that his wife sued him for divorce for precisely that reason. I assume if that was true that the suit was long ago withdrawn and probably sealed.

Finally I heard from numerous sources (i.e., doper, gay) that Tiahrt's son Luke was: a.) gay b.) a drunk c.) a doper. I heard from still another source (the kid's classmate) that he was drinking, stoned, banged up his car on the way home from partying and that after he got bawled out by his parents, went to the basement and hung himself. I'd heard from sources that he had just recently bombed out in a parentally-ordered "Jesus will make you straight" camp.

Why should any of that be an issue? Because Barnett has an extremely anti-gay voting record: http://www.actwin.com/eatonohio/gay/kansass.html

Tiahrt, besides possibly promoting his son's death with his intolerance, has complained that the National Park Service shows a video in which there are gays. He supported military rules against adultery. He is also anti-doper. He managed to keep the District of Columbia from spending its own money on a needle exchange program which would have reduced blood borne diseases among users.

The issue is hypocrisy. Plain and simple.

Barnett and Tiahrt are a**holes. For that matter, so is Kathleen. I see nothing wrong with picking on these people ... they've got it coming. However, their is nothing wrong with their kids. So let's stop blogging about the personal lives of these children. It's in very poor taste.

Anonymous said...

So, who do we speculate the staffer is that is suing Barnett? Any takers??

Today is the anniversary of Luke's death. I googled him to find something sweet and sentimental to remind me of my friend, and instead I found this shit. People need to realize the effects that their words can have on people. Todd Tiahrt is one of the kindest people I know, and their family is still suffering after the tragic loss of their son. This has mad me very upset.

Anonymous said...

Well, Stacy, if Todd had been halfway honest about Luke's death, things would have been different. Instead, Todd chose to ignore an opportunity to use his soapbox to discuss teen suicide, gay or otherwise. To me, that only shows just how cold-hearted he is and one who is not deserving of my pity.

Listen you "al", Luke was a friend of mine. If you're going to talk politics, then talk politics. Do not spit bullshit from "sources" (undoubtedly "friends of friends who knew someone") that claim to know something about him. He was not gay, he had just gotten a DUI when he impulsively(to use correct grammar, you pusillanimous cretin) HANGED himself. Every man has his flaws, as surely as you have the ones I've pointed out. So bash Mr. Tiarht all you want, but do not besmirch the life of a 16 year old who had a bright future and many friends.

Well said, Mark. Today would be Luke's 21st birthday. There are many who love and miss him...especially his family.

What a sad day it is as a dear friend of Luke's to be missing him and thinking of him a week after his birthday only to google his name and find this trash. I knew Luke very well from a young age and had been with him the week before this terrible tragedy occurred. Mark, couldn't have said it better. It is truly despicable and disgusting that you think because you heard some (untrue) rumor you can trash him and his family all over the internet. SHAME ON YOU! How dare you sit here and throw around someone's death like it was a political move. Come judgment day I hope you have repented because this in itself could earn you a spot in Hell.
