The rumor in the halls was that former Barnett campaign manager Christian Morgan orchestrated his effort. Guess it goes to show that when given a good candidate or a task that doesn't involve Susan Wagle, Morgan can get the job done. It may be too early to speculate, but my money is on Morgan to be the new GOP Executive Director.

As predicted here, Tim Huelskamp lost by a very wide and embarrassing margin. Had it been any wider, the Grand Canyon would have been jealous. This effectively ends his hope of running for any office other than the one he currently holds.

Embattled former gubernatorial candidate Jim Barnett was also there- having a reception for himself to celebrate how great he thinks he is. Barnett, not running for anything, must still be reeling from the beat-down last November. He rented a room and asked people to come by under the guise of being able to say thanks, but taking one step in the room it was obvious it was simply a way for Barnett to feed his ego- having people come up to him for a couple hours telling him how proud they are of him, how much they hoped he would win, etc. It served no other purpose than making him feel better about himself. Its clear Barnett's best days are behind him. Very bizarre behavior, but from what we've recently gathered, its about par for the course. Maybe it's the Wagle factor rubbing off again.

Also in a somewhat shocking statement, Jim Ryun announced he is running for his old Congressional seat. This could be the big first test for Kobach's leadership ability- can he keep either Ryun or Lynn Jenkins out of the race? A bloody primary will surely do nothing but strengthen Boyda's chances of being reelected.

More on these stories and much more throughout the week.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-22568741132150279512007-01-23T19:49:00.000-06:002007-01-23T20:02:43.560-06:00GOP Gov Candidate Being Sued
***EXCLUSIVE***

Former GOP gubernatorial candidate Jim Barnett is apparently being sued by at least one former staffer and at least one company for failing to pay bills, wages, reimbursements and fundraising commissions.

Our source indicates Barnett, in an effort to recoup his $100,000 seed money from his campaign account, withdrew the remaining campaign account money before all bills were paid.

We've also been told a complaint has been or is about to be filed with the Kansas Ethics Commission for what our source called 'Wagle Accounting'. (Oh, Tim, what would the GOP have done with you- maybe raise some money or at least had a get-out-the-vote plan for your candidates?) He was a do nothing party chair who abandoned the party and has left the coffers dry. Who in the world thinks a conservative lapdog of Kansans for Life like Huelskamp would do any better? Huelskamp has never tried to build coalitions or raise money outside of southwest Kansas. And he wants to be party chair? Beautiful. Priceless. Sounds like he's going through an inferiority complex or at least a case of overinflated ego. This could be exactly what Democrats were hoping Santa would bring them.

The nuts in a Huelskamp election would be to further galvanize the conservative/moderate split in Kansas. Until the voting members wake up and realize that the GOP got their collective basksides handed to them because of weak candidates, lack of party leadership, their non-compromising positions and elitist attitudes, they will continue to lose seats in congress and in the statehouse.

Rumors have also been circulating about a possible effort by Phill Kline trying to gauge support for a run at the party chair position, but we haven't seen anything posted here about that development. Isn't there a height requirement for the position?

In all seriousness, exactly what could he offer the party besides more of the same? The party needs a fundraising person who can tap into wells which have gone untouched. Shallenburger's tenure has drained the state party coffers to the point Ron Freeman and Margie Canfield are taking 'extra-long' Christmas breaks.

Anyway, we are hearing a number of names being floated around: Eric Carter, Mike Pompeo and a darkhorse: Christian Morgan.

Pompeo is a intriguing choice, but doesn't have the deep hooks throughout the state to garner enough votes.

Eric Carter? His mysterious disappearance after being totally abused by Sandy Praeger in the primary will not sit well with most. From what I know of him, he seems like he's only interested in what will benefit him.

Morgan would bring the only proven fundraising experience to the party out of all potential candidates. With his ties to both Johnson County and statewide money, he is definitely qualified.

More on these and other developments soon....Unknownnoreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-1163005852122018612006-11-08T11:06:00.000-06:002006-11-08T11:10:52.146-06:00Huelskamp set to announce 2010 bid?

We have received word that current Kansas State Senator Tim Huelskamp will be announcing his candidacy for governor shortly after the holiday season.

From what we heard last night, Huelskamp will tap Ken Canfield and will begin raising money and developing a grassroots network immediately.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-1162927689930160732006-11-07T13:24:00.000-06:002006-11-07T13:29:45.716-06:00Predictions

Sebelius 54
Barnett 45

Morrison 57
Kline 43

Ryun 53
Boyda 45

Jenkins, Thornburg, Praeger, etc. all roll to easy victories.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-1161869827975219522006-10-26T08:29:00.000-05:002006-10-26T08:37:08.010-05:00Barnett Cooked
According to one of our sources, Jim Barnett is now down by nearly 20 points in the latest Rasmussen poll.

Sebelius is at 56 and Barnett is bringing up the rear at 37.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-1159668071070581022006-09-30T20:40:00.000-05:002006-09-30T21:01:11.096-05:00Barnett Closing the Gap?Down by 20 or down by 9?

Last week, Survey USA had Barnett down by 20. She has even gone as far to propose that she appear in their next television ad - without Barnett!

The source also goes on the say,

'Anyone that knows Susan Wagle knows she is totally nuts and is only interested in doing something if it has a direct benefit to her. You are going to love what else we have to report. It looks like his strategy points to a soft press secretary not being on the ball.

But we have faith that the Barnett campaign will take the necessary steps to get back on track. It's better something like this happen now than even a week from now.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-1154798250120461812006-08-05T12:11:00.000-05:002006-08-05T23:23:53.823-05:00Nasty campaign? Doesn't look like it.Within hours of Jim Barnett being declared the winner in Tuesday nights Republican primary, the Democratic Party sent out boxes of flip-flops to area reporters to symbolize Barnett's flip-flop on a number of issues since taking office.

Barnett's campaign responded by throwing a piece of gravel at Sebelius for taking a trip to the US border. Barnett says it was a nothing more than a P.R. stunt and photo-op.

One has to wonder why the KSDP would give Barnett credibility by attacking him so quickly, and if Barnett has anything better than this to attack the governor with.

Barnett, already fighting a feminine persona, needs to grow horns and a set of testicles to get any traction against the Sebelius machine. His bedside manner probably works well in the doctor office, but has no place on the campaign trail. Are we the only ones who think Susan Wagle could physically beat up Barnett?

The governor must be severely wounded before anyone will take notice and think Barnett has a better than a 1000-1 shot.

It will be difficult at best for Barnett alone to damage the governor. That said, there are no Republican officials or office holders that can match the tenacity of Anthony Hensley and a long list of other attack dogs. Doug Mays? Tim Shallenburger? Give us a break. They have long since lost credibility with the media and fellow Republicans.

Not all is lost for Republicans, but unless Barnett and the rest of the Republican party is ready to take off their pantyhose and get aggressive to inflict real damage to Sebelius, this race could very well be over by Labor Day.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27343164.post-1154531589047661912006-08-02T10:02:00.000-05:002006-08-05T00:25:11.946-05:0036, 26, 22Not real sexy numbers for him, but it was a double digit win for Barnett.

The shock of the night has to be the very poor showing by Robin Jennison. Guess he spent too much time traveling to nook-and-cranny counties rather than raising money.

For those of you at the 'unity' party, did Canfield ever conceded victory? We have also heard Canfield was the only candidate who did not call Barnett to offer congratulations and concede victory.

Verrrry classy, Ken. Way to 'lead by example'.
